Equality Objectives Statement

Below are our Equality Objective Statements which have been updated in November 2024 to reflect the systems in place across school to support equlaity and inclusion for all stakeholders:

Objective 1

Staff will feel confident in responding effectively to prejudice-related bullying, as shown in the annual staff survey

Why we have chosen this objective: in line with KCSiE 2023 and the importance of responding to all incidences of child-on-child abuse and incidences of bullying, we will look to ensure that staff are confident in following the policies and procedures to deal with prejudice-related bullying.

To achieve this objective, we plan to:

  • Update the Antibullying Policy and in doing so create a child-friendly version.
  • Engage in AntiBullying events and activities to promote the importance of tackling any incidents of prejudice.
  • Utilise Personal, Relationships and Sex Education (PRSE) session to explore key themes and raise awareness of all our responsibilities to address prejudicerelated behaviour.
  • Collaborate with Leeds Trinity University to engage in a project to diversify our curriculum; this will form part of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) for 20242025.

Progress we are making towards this objective:

  • To be updated in line with the SIP for 20242025

Objective 2

Promotion of cultural understanding and awareness of different cultural, ethnic and religious beliefs within and beyond our school community

Why we have chosen this objective: developing the children’s understanding of global issues beyond the school and close community is essential in ensuring that they are prepared to play a role as a global citizen of the future.  Incidences of racism increased during the 2023-2024 academic year; this is something that needs to be addressed and reduced as we move towards a more cohesive school community.

To achieve this objective, we plan to:

  • Review the curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment to ensure all the protected characteristics are represented.
  • Explore the protected characteristics through assembly themes to raise the awareness of these to our learners. Raise the profile of the protected characteristics within and across the school environment.
  • Collaborate with Leeds Trinity University to engage in a project to diversify our curriculum; this will form part of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) for 20242025.
  • Deliver a highquality curriculum which celebrates and embraces different beliefs and values from around the globe; this will be supplemented by assembly themes and working towards the British Council’s International Schools’ Award.
  • Monitoring from leaders will review the representation of the protected characteristics within and across the curriculum.
  • Updates to governors (via Headteacher Reports) will focus on the protected characteristics and how they are represented across the school and the impact of this.
  • Provide opportunities for the school and its community to celebrate and recognise different cultural, ethnic and religious beliefs through events in and out-side of the curriculum, teaching and learning.

Progress we are making towards this objective:

  • To be updated in line with the SIP for 20242025

Objective 3

Continue to improve accessibility across the school for students, staff and visitors with disabilities, including access to specialist teaching areas and appropriate resources and facilities

Why we have chosen this objective: The context of the children entering school has changed significantly post-Covid 19; it is imperative that we regularly review and enhance the learning provision we provide to all our learners.

To achieve this objective, we plan to:

  • Implement a Learning and Teaching Policy in September 2024 to ensure consistency in the delivery of the John Blow Primary School curriculum. This will include specific details on accessibility components.
  • Continually monitor and review internal (and external where available) information to identify ways to support individual needs.
  • Liaise with the Family SENDCo and local schools to access the bestpossible care and support for our learners.
  • Ensure awareness of and provide upto-date information about our accessibility provision throughout the school and its community.

Progress we are making towards this objective:

  • To be updated in line with the SIP for 20242025
